Day 9 - Ellensburg to Windy Point campground, on the way to Mt. Rainer Nat'l Park

59.5 miles, 2569 up

The day off in Ellensburg was very refreshing!
Trudy made some calls yesterday and we found that camping in Mt. Ranier National Park was full. So, we decided to try campgrounds on the way to the Park on a first come, first served basis. We landed in Windy Point, which is beautiful. We're camped next to the Tieton River and have already been in for a dip, cleaned today's riding clothes and set up camp.
The ride today was fantastic - a bit cool in the early morning, but the winds were light. We rode along a canyon road along the Yakima River, almost to Yakima. Then over to the Tieton River.

Self portrait along the Yakima...

We stopped along the way to watch a nesting pair of Bald Eagles on the other side of the river.

On our way to Natches... ??

A landmark in Natches, on our way to the Tieton River.

We stopped along the way for a snack and learned that a big fire was happening along Lake Chelan, where we rode three days ago. Many of the homes that we admired as we rode along the lake are gone, now. The road that we where riding     on was closed, too.

So, here we are... camping next to a meandering river. Tomorrow, we will camp near Mt. Ranier if we can.
